Our long time Phoenix member Norm Rennick played football for the BC Lions back in 1959? Norm had previously played in Ottawa and before the 1959 season started, he met Herb Capozzi, then GM of the BC Lions at a social function. Norm and Herb chatted about football and before you know it, Herb asked Norm to come to Vancouver. Norm was a mere 23 years old and a hefty 250 lb player that alternated between center and linebacker. Norm’s career as a football player ended after two games as he suffered a severe knee injury. Once able to walk again, Norm went back to Ottawa and went to work at CN Rail.
